How to Plan a Holiday in Tenerife

What to do in Tenerife

Arrival and Airport Transfer

The first step in starting your holiday is arriving in Tenerife.

The island has two airports – Tenerife North Airport (TFN) and Tenerife South Airport (TFS). The South Airport is closer to the popular tourist areas, such as Costa Adeje, Playa de las Américas, and Los Cristianos.

To conveniently reach your hotel, it’s best to use a pre-booked transfer. This option helps you avoid stress and taxi queues, and the guide who greets you can provide initial tips about the island.

These tips could be very valuable, especially if it’s your first time on the island.

Check-in and Exploring the Surroundings

After arriving at the hotel and checking in, it's worth exploring the area. Find the nearest shops, pharmacies, and cafes to ensure you have everything you need during your trip.

Where to Start?

It's definitely not a good idea to start with water parks right away—give your skin some time to adjust to the sun. Save the parks for later days, once you’ve understood just how strong the sun can be in Tenerife, even on days that don’t feel particularly hot.

We recommend starting with a tour—ideally with a private guide, but bus tours are also a great way to gather essential information about the island.

A private guide will not only show you the island’s main attractions but will also spend the entire day with you. This is a fantastic opportunity to ask questions about the island, local culture, and get practical advice on what else is worth seeing and how best to do it.

If it’s your first time on the island, the best route for a tour is Teide – Masca. It’s designed to showcase the island’s southern, northern, and central regions, which are all remarkably different, in just one day.

What to do during the day?

  • Enjoy the local cuisine: Try "papas arrugadas" with Mojo sauce and fresh seafood.

  • Visit Loro Park: A world-famous zoological and botanical park.

  • Spend the day at Siam Park: One of the best water parks in Europe.

  • Take a catamaran or boat trip: See dolphins and whales in their natural habitat.

  • For active entertainment enthusiasts: We recommend a jet ski safari in the ocean.

  • For fishing enthusiasts: Join a special 4-hour trip on a professionally equipped fishing boat.

What to Do in the Evening?

One of the most unforgettable evenings could be the Knights Tournament at "Castillo de San Miguel."

This spectacular medieval show includes transportation, dinner, and unlimited wine – a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a historic atmosphere and enjoy the performance.

After the tournament, you can end the evening at a local bar, with Canarian wines and beer enjoying live music or karaoke.

Young people might prefer to visit the Las Américas area “Veronicas” home to the island's most popular nightclubs and discos.

Conclusion and Transfer to the Airport

At the end of your trip, it’s best to use the services of the guide you’re already familiar with to get back to the airport.

The journey from Costa Adeje to the South Airport takes 15 minutes, while it’s about an hour to the North Airport.

Be prepared for possible traffic jams – on weekdays, it might be wise to allow an extra half hour.

If unsure, consult your guide or the hotel reception.
